Password Protect Your NFC Tags
Secure your NFC tags to prevent unauthorized changes
Why Password Protect Your NFC Tags?
Password protection prevents others from modifying or overwriting the data on your NFC tags. This is especially important for:
- WiFi Tags: Prevent unauthorized changes to your network credentials
- Business Cards: Keep your contact information secure and unchangeable
- Public Tags: Protect tags placed in public locations from tampering
What You'll Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Open NFC Taggy Tools
Launch the NFC Taggy Tools app on your iPhone.
Make sure you have already written data to your NFC tag before setting a password.

Tap "More Ops" Button
From the home screen, locate and tap the "More Ops" button. This will open the additional operations menu.
Select "Set Password"
In the More Operations menu, tap on "Set Password" option. This will open the password protection interface.

Enter Your Password
Enter your desired password (typically 4-8 characters). Confirm the password by entering it again. Make sure to use a password you can remember.
Write down your password and store it in a safe place. If you forget it, you may not be able to modify the tag in the future.
Write Password to Tag
Tap the "Write Password" or "Protect Tag" button. Hold your iPhone near the NFC tag. Keep your phone steady until you see a success message.
Once password protected, you will need to enter this password every time you want to modify the tag.

Test the Protection
Try to write new data to the tag. The app should prompt you for the password. Enter your password to confirm the protection is working.
Troubleshooting
Password protection failed
Make sure the NFC tag supports password protection. Not all tag types can be password protected. NTAG215 and NTAG216 tags support password protection, while some cheaper tags may not.
Forgot my password
Unfortunately, if you forget your password, you may not be able to modify the tag. Some tags can be reset using special tools, but this is not always possible. Always write down your password in a safe place.
Tag is already password protected
If the tag is already password protected by someone else, you will need the original password to modify it. If you don't have the password, you may need to use a new blank tag.
Password prompt not appearing
Make sure the password was successfully written to the tag. Try reading the tag first to verify it's working, then attempt to write new data to trigger the password prompt.
Best Practices & Tips
Use a memorable but secure password - avoid simple passwords like "1234"
Write down your password and store it in a password manager or safe place
Test the password protection immediately after setting it
Consider using different passwords for different types of tags (WiFi, contact cards, etc.)
Password protect tags that will be placed in public locations
Remember that password protection prevents writing, but the tag can still be read by anyone
Some advanced users may be able to bypass weak passwords, so use strong passwords for sensitive data
